It's a sad day when you haven't touched 30 and can use the phrase ‘back in my day’ when it comes to education. Because ‘back in my day’ school was simple. You went to school, took your classes and waited for the bell to dismiss you. However with the pandemic and surge of tech it seems the standard model of schooling may just be a thing of the past.

Terms like ‘blended learning’ and ‘hybrid learning’ are being tossed around these days and while they may sound like the same thing, there is a subtle yet important difference.

BLENDED LEARNING VS HYBRID LEARNING

Before we dive into the benefits of blended learning, it's important to define what we mean by it.

Blended learning focuses on the combination of online and offline instruction. Incorporating technology, online tools, and digital platforms in the classroom to aid learning. Whereas hybrid learning is more specific to classes that are happening in real-time and streamed online. Therefore making it part of blended learning. With blended learning, technology is meant to complement in-person teaching. For example resources like videos, webinars, simulations, and digital assignments are meant to enhance learning. Whereas with hybrid learning, video recording tools and live streaming services are used to broadcast in-class teaching to students at home.

BENEFITS OF BLENDED LEARNING

Using technology in education has become integral during the shift to remote learning. Resources, teaching material, and even classes were taken online. Creating a sense of virtual classrooms and teaching online. Integrating digital technology and web-based learning tools has numerous benefits including:

1- COMPLEMENTING DIFFERENT LEARNING STYLES

Blended learning can cater to the different learning styles of students. Some online curriculums even teach new concepts in 3 different ways. With learning becoming more customized, students will find it easier to learn and increase their appetite to learn more.

2 - MORE ACCESSIBLE

In a traditional school setting, educational material is only really available in the classroom. Even borrowing books from the school library could be a hassle, with returning books, books getting lost, or books being unavailable. With edtech, students can more easily access material from home. Or anywhere from any device.

3 - LEARNING AT YOUR OWN PACE

Blended learning can help accommodate the different learning speeds of students. Web-based tools and apps can give students a certain degree of freedom to explore topics they want. Along with experimenting with ways to learn, and to start learning at their own pace.

4 - IMPROVE EFFECIENCY

It can be hard for a teacher to know how well all their students comprehend the material they’re teaching. However online learning makes it easier for teachers to assess where their students are at. Teachers also have the ability to plan ahead. Creating and reusing content throughout their teaching. They have the freedom to create endless templates to use for the entire year.

5 - COST EFFECTIVE

Blended learning can be a huge money saver. It can help save venue costs, travel costs, cost of books and more. If used strategically an institution could reduce cost by nearly 50%.

BLENDED LEARNING AND SPRINGRING

We are Edtech advocates. We believe in our platform and we strive to make school communication efficient. For everyone involved. We know that there are so many platforms out there and schools are using several of them. With the shift to distance learning the dependency on edtech has increased. We’ve noticed that the demand for online tools and communication has skyrocketed.

At Springring we want to connect admin, teachers, parents, and students. School admin can communicate with the whole school in an instant. Ensuring that all staff, teachers, parents, and students receive the same message. Teachers can collate, create, and post classroom updates. From self-recorded videos, homework attachments, meeting links to resources. Teachers can also select to send information to parents only, students only, or both.

As for parents and students, everything is already set for them. All they have to do is log in and they will be greeted with an entire feed of school and classroom updates. Parents get to see information that is only relevant to them and their kids. While students get an organized view of all classroom resources, assignments, and attachments. Ensuring that all vital communication is shared amongst all.
